The first is named Blanca. This is my take on a classic Manuel Rodriguez design.  featuring selected sophistications to enhance the playing experience. This is my first time crafting this design and so far I’m very pleased with the progress. I selected a Cocobolo back and sides and a spruce top for just the right balance.

The second instrument is named Sharma. This is a model inspired the 1937 Segovia model by Hauser. Although the original might be in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, this version will soon be at Remenyi. This guitar features curly walnut sides and back coupled with a cedar top for a rich combination.

I will provide more information about these instruments once they are nearer completion. I am very happy with the progress so far, stay tuned.

I have been hard at work on instruments for the Montreal Guitar Show and I wanted to share my progress with you. Although this event runs between June 29 to July 1 of this year, I want to make sure that I have these instruments completed to accommodate custom orders. I hope you enjoy these pictures.

All four of the instruments are presently on their way to their new homes in Australia, Hawaii, Vermont and Philadelphia. Based on my correspondence with the musicians, it is clear that they are headed to true ukulele enthusiasts who will make them sing.

Pepe:

Sitka Spruce top with abalone purfling. Indian Rosewood back and sides, maple bindings.  Pepe is on its way to Hawai’i.

Amigo X:

Sinker Red Cedar top, with Bubinga sides and back. This ukulele is on its way to Australia.

Paul, the owner of this instrument, forwarded me the following note after receiving his ukulele:

““Wow” what a great Christmas present – excellent workmanship, not to mention the sound which I love. I Also love the combination of bubinga and redwood.”

Little Tiger:

Sinker Red Cedar top, with Bubinga sides and back. This one also features custom inlay work on the fretboard. This instrument is on its way to Philadelphia.

I also received the following note from its proud owner:

“Simply amazing! I cannot put this ukulele down. I wanted an instrument that I can cherish and pass down to my son. You delivered. I love the craftsmanship and the wonderful deep tone. The Redwood and Bubinga is a great combination. The inlay work looks even better in person. You should be proud of your gift and skills. Thank you for making this beautiful instrument. Hopefully in the future you will do me the honor of building another instrument.”

D’jango:

Western Red Cedar top, with Indian Rosewood sides and back. D’jango will soon be home in Vermont.

Two are made with Indian Rosewood back and sides. The one with abalone purfling has a sitka spruce top and is named Pepe. This order came from Hawaii. I must admit that it is an honour to receive an order form the homeland of this lovely instrument. The one without has a Western Red Cedar top and is named D’jango. This one will soon find its home in Vermont. The other two instruments are Bubinga back and sides with a “sinker” Red Cedar top.  One of these will soon fly to Philadelphia. The other, Amigo X, is presently available. All of the bindings are maple.

The necks are Cuban Cedar with Ebony fret boards. Depending on the customer’s choice, I am installing either Grover or Gotoh tuners with Delrin rollers. As you can see, there are numerous choices depending on tastes. Crafting a unique instrument based on a customer’s aesthetic preferences and personality is always a highlight of the process for me.

As I have hopefully captured in the pictures below, the crafting process for an LFdM ukulele is as uncompromising as the process I use for my guitars. There are no short cuts. I hope you enjoy these pictures. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
